Draw Pluto

Use the video and step-by-step drawing instructions below to learn how to draw Walt Disney's Pluto. A new cartoon drawing tutorial is uploaded every week, so stay tooned!

Intro: Start drawing Pluto with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don't press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

Draw Pluto Step 1

Step 1: To draw Walt Disney's Pluto, start with a small circle near the top right of the page. You don't have to draw the circle perfectly; it's just a basic shape for Pluto's head. Draw a curved vertical line that splits the circle in two. This is a construction line that will help you place Pluto's features later.

Draw Pluto Step 2

Step 2: Next, draw a long oval on the lower right side of the main circle as a guide for Pluto's muzzle. Draw the oval so it starts where the vertical construction line meets the circle at the bottom.

Draw Pluto Step 3

Step 3: At the end of the long oval, draw a smaller oval, this time with a vertical orientation. This will be Pluto's nose.

Draw Pluto Step 4

Step 4: Under the long oval on the left side, draw a big curved line that resembles the letter U. This is a guide for Pluto's lower jaw.

Draw Pluto Step 5

Step 5: Draw guides for Pluto's eyes inside the main circle. Start drawing the line high on the vertical construction line, then bend it down to meet the long oval. Draw a smaller curve on the top right to create Pluto's other eye.

Draw Pluto Step 6

Step 6: On the lower right side of the main circle, draw a long narrow curve for Pluto's ear. Draw the curve so it is similar to a very long and skinny letter U.

Draw Pluto Step 7

Step 7: That's it for the initial sketch of Pluto, the Walt Disney cartoon character! You have the basic Pluto shape, so now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

Draw Pluto Step 8

Step 8: Tighten the shape of Pluto's nose and darken it. Taper the bottom a bit so that the top is a tad wider than the bottom.

Draw Pluto Step 9

Step 9: Use the long oval as a guide to draw the top of Pluto's muzzle. Draw three curved lines that resemble hills overlapping each other. On the left side, draw a smaller curved line that goes in the opposite direction and meets this Disney cartoon character's eye.

Draw Pluto Step 10

Step 10: Using the long circle again, draw the bottom portion of Pluto's muzzle. Draw a small curve that starts at the nose, then a longer curved line that overlaps it and ends at the bottom of the main circle to create Pluto's smile. Draw a smile line at the end, too.

Draw Pluto Step 10

Step 11: Darken the shapes of Pluto's eyes, and draw a long oval inside each eye for his pupils. Shade in the pupils except for a small circle on the top that represents glare.

Draw Pluto Step 11

Step 12: On top of Pluto's eyes, draw a curved line that resembles the lowercase letter m. This is Pluto's brow.

Draw Pluto Step 13

Step 13: Move on to drawing Pluto's jaw. Inside the U shape below the top part of his muzzle, draw two of lines to create the inside of his mouth. Then at the bottom of it, draw a couple of curved lines make Pluto's tongue.

Draw Pluto Step 14

Step 14: Finish drawing Pluto's lower jaw by following the initial line as a guide and curving it all the way up to his ear.

Draw Pluto Step 15

Step 15: To draw Pluto's ear, simply darken the shape and close the curve at the top with a rounded curve. Draw a couple of curved lines on top to represent folds of skin.

Draw Pluto Step 16

Step 16: Use the main circle as a guide to draw Pluto's head. On top of his head, draw a small little bulge. Between Pluto's ear and jaw, draw a curved vertical line for his neck.

Draw Pluto Step 17

Step 17: That's it! You now have a nice sketch of Walt Disney's Pluto. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.

Draw Pluto Step 18

Step 18: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker and fill in Pluto's pupils. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Pluto, the Walt Disney cartoon character! You can stop here or go to the final step below to complete your Pluto drawing.

Draw Pluto Last Step

Final Step: For a completely finished Pluto drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Pluto's head/face is yellow, and his ears and nose are black. The inside of Pluto's mouth is brown, and his tongue is pink. That's it! You now have a completed drawing of Mickey Mouse's dog Pluto.
