Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

 

Step 1: Draw a rectangle as a guide for Muscle Man's head. First draw a few marks to determine the height and width of the rectangle. Sketch the sides lightly at first, then darken them when the shape is right. The shape doesn't have to be exact. It just has to look more or less like a rectangle.

 

Step 2: Draw two intersecting lines inside the circle, one horizontal and one vertical. The vertical line should be slightly to the left of the middle, and the horizontal line should be a bit higher than the middle. These are construction lines that will help you place Muscle Man's facial features later on.

 

Step 3: Draw two small circles inside the head as guides for Muscle Man's eyes. The circles should sit right on top of the horizontal construction line. The circles should be on either side of the vertical construction line.

 

Step 4: Draw a square-like shape around the head as a guide for Muscle Man's hair. First draw the line at the top, then the lines on the sides. The lines at the very bottom should be small.

 

Step 5: Draw a long, curved line under the head as a guide for Muscle Man's body. First make a mark at the bottom to indicate how far down the line will go. Then draw the sides of the line that come from where the guide for the hair ends. The shape should be narrow at the top, and wider and flatter at the bottom.

Step 6: Draw a couple of angled lines on either side of the body as guides for Muscle Man's arms. At the end of each line, draw a small circle as a guide for the hands. The guides for the arms start in the area where the body meets the hair.

 

Step 7: Under Muscle Man's body, draw two curved lines as guides for the legs. At the end of each line, draw an oval as a guide for the feet.

 

That's it for the guides! For the next steps, use darker lines for a more finished drawing.

 

Step 8: Draw a small, curved line under the eyes for the nose. Muscle Man's nose should cover the bottom of the eyes a bit. Use the horizontal construction line as a guide for placement. Add two even smaller curved lines inside the nose for the nostrils.

 

Step 9: Draw a curved line that covers the top of the eyes for Muscle Man's heavy brow. Darken the sides of the circles to create the shape of the eyes. Draw two curved lines inside the eyes for the lower eyelids. The eyelids should be just a little higher than the top of the nose.

Step 10: Inside each eye, right above the eyelids, add a dot for the eyes. Draw a line above the eyes and some short lines on the sides for his wrinkles. Draw a couple more lines at the bottom for the bags under Muscle Man's eyes.

 

Step 11: Draw Muscle Man's mouth under the nose by first drawing a small line on the right. Then, using a curved line, draw the shape of the open mouth. The shape of the mouth should be similar to a sausage link.

 

Step 12: Inside Muscle Man's mouth, on the top side, draw three small, u- shaped lines for the teeth.

 

Step 13: Use the initial lines as guides to draw the first part of Muscle Man's hair. Draw a series of small, u-shaped lines along the top part of the original rectangle. Follow the basic path of the guides to draw the right side of the hair. Use small u- shaped lines along the bottom for the tips of the hair.

 

Step 14: Now draw the second part of Muscle Man's hair by first drawing a couple of small, curved lines on the top right. Then follow the basic path of the guide as you draw a long, curved line for the top of the hair. Use two small, u-shaped lines on the left to indicate his bangs. Finish Muscle Man's hair by drawing the left side and adding the curved tips at the bottom.

Step 15: Follow the basic path of the original rectangle to create the shape of the face. Make the bottom part rounder as you follow the guide. Inside the face, draw a u-shaped line for Muscle Man's chin.

 

Step 16: Use the angled line on the right as a guide to draw the arm. Follow the basic path of the guide as you make the shape of the arm thicker. Draw Muscle Man's hand within the shape of the circle using a series of curved lines.

 

Step 17: Draw the arm on the left the same way. Follow the path of the guide as you make the shape of the arm thicker. Use curved lines inside the small circle to create Muscle Man's small hands.

 

Step 18: Use two curved lines for Muscle Man's chest. The curved lines should be placed just above the hands. Draw a long, curved line below the hands for the bottom of the shirt. Add a tiny, curved line near the middle for Muscle Man's navel.

 

Step 19: Draw another long, curved line under Muscle Man's shirt for the top of the pants. Use the lines at the bottom as guides to draw shape of the legs. Follow the basic path of the guides as you make the shapes of the legs thicker.

Step 20: Draw Muscle Man's shoes at the bottom by using the small ovals as guides. On each shoe, draw a small wedge on the right for the heels.

 

Step 21: For a more finished look, carefully go over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker.

 

Step 22: After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser for a cleaner drawing.

 

Final Step: Color your Muscle Man's drawing using color pencils, markers or even crayons! Use dark green for the hair and light green for the skin. The shirt should be dark blue. The pants are gray, and the shoes are black. The inside of the mouth is dark red, and the eyes are light red.
