Below you can watch a NEW step-by-step tutorial with NARRATED steps:

The following is an older video tutorial:

Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake.

Draw Yoshi Step 1

Step 1: To draw Yoshi, start with a small circle on the top right side of the page. This is the basic shape for Yoshi's head. Under the circle, draw a thick crescent-moon shape. The points of the half-moon should point to the right, and the circle of the moon should be on the left. This is the basic shape for Yoshi's body.

Draw Yoshi Step 2

Step 2: Next to the head you drew in step 1, draw a circle the same size as the head. Draw this circle to the left of the head and up a little higher. The two circles should overlap and look like a Venn diagram. This circle will be Yoshi's nose. Below Yoshi's nose circle, draw a U-shaped curve that connects the nose circle and the head circle. This will be Yoshi's mouth.

Draw Yoshi Step 3

Step 3: Now you will draw two upside-down U-shaped curves on top of this video game character's head. Both curves should overlap and connect the head circle with the nose circle. These will be Yoshi's eyes.

Draw Yoshi Step 4

Step 4: On the top left side of Yoshi's half-moon body, draw a short line going up and to the left, and then draw a circle at the end of it. At the end of the circle, draw four small lines going up and to the left. On the right side of his body, draw a bigger curved line with bigger circle at the end of it. These are basic guides for Yoshi's hands.

Draw Yoshi Step 5

Step 5: From the bottom left side of Yoshi's body, draw a small line with an oval under it. To the right of that, draw a longer line that begins inside the moon shape and comes down and outside of it slightly. Under this line draw a circle. These are basic guides for Yoshi's legs.

Draw Yoshi Step 6

Step 6: That's it for the initial sketch of Yoshi from Nintendo's Mario Brothers video games! You have the basic Yoshi shape, so now you will go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

Draw Yoshi Step 7

Step 7: Darken in his the shape of Yoshi's nose and draw two small curves on the top left for his nostrils. Tighten the shape of his mouth by drawing a laugh line on the bottom right of the upside-down U shape. Draw a second U-shaped curve above it to create Yoshi's lower lip. Inside this lip, draw another curve to create his tongue.

Draw Yoshi Step 8

Step 8: Tighten the shape of Yoshi's eyes. Draw some eyelids and a curve under them where the eyes meet Yoshi's cheek. Draw an oval inside the right eye and a half oval in the left. These are Yoshi's pupils.

Draw Yoshi Step 9

Step 9: Darken the shape of the back of this video game character's head and draw a big curve from the back of his head to the side of his mouth that will indicate his cheek. On the back of Yoshi's head, draw three small bumpy curves to represent his spikes.

Draw Yoshi Step 10

Step 10: Draw in Yoshi's right hand by thickening the guide and giving him a fist and knuckles.

Draw Yoshi Step 11

Step 11: To begin drawing Yoshi's right leg, first darken the foot circle and make it flatter on the bottom. Draw a horizontal line under it for the shoe's sole.

Draw Yoshi Step 12

Step 12: Now draw a couple of curves on top of the original circle to create the ankle of Yoshi's shoe and attach them to the circle with two small lines on each side. Then thicken Yoshi's leg guide.

Draw Yoshi Step 13

Step 13: Darken the shape of Yoshi's body and tail. Draw in a curve inside the half-moon shape that starts at his neck and ends at his right leg. Draw a line above the bottom of Yoshi's tail, which is the continuation of the curve you just drew from his neck to the leg. The shell saddle on Yoshi's back is hidden by his right hand, so just draw in a few lines to indicate it’s there.

Draw Yoshi Step 14

Step 14: Draw in Yoshi's left hand by thickening the shape of the guides. Round out his fingers and make sure the small curved line that makes his thumb is drawn inside the hand.

Draw Yoshi Step 15

Step 15: Yoshi's left leg is a lot like his right. Flatten the bottom of the oval and draw a horizontal line below it for his shoe's sole. Draw two curves above the original oval to create the top of his shoe. Then draw a small line that connects his body to his shoe to indicate his leg.

Draw Yoshi Step 16

Step 16: That's it! You now have a nice sketch of Yoshi from Nintendo's Mario Brothers video games. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look, or continue to the step below to go for a more finished look.

Draw Yoshi Step 17

Step 17: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for any ink to dry, and then erase your pencil marks. You now have a finished inked drawing of Yoshi! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Yoshi drawing in its entirety.

Draw Yoshi Final Step

Final Step: For a completely finished Yoshi drawing, you have to color it. You can use anything you want: markers, color pencils or even crayons! Yoshi is an easy character to color. Color his body green, but leave his stomach and cheek white. Yoshi's spikes, tongue and saddle are red. The inside of his mouth is dark brown and his shoes light brown. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of Yoshi from Nintendo's Mario Brothers video games.
