Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake.
Step 1: Start sketching The Grinch with a big oval a bit to the right of the middle of the page. This will be the basic shape for the Grinch’s head.
Step 2: Next, make a vertical line near the left side of the main oval and a horizontal line near the middle of the oval. When sketching the lines, curve them so they follow the contour of the oval. These will be construction lines that will help you place the Grinch’s features later on.
Step 3: Pencil in a curve on either side of the oval shape. The curve should start out on the tip of the horizontal construction line at the edge of the oval and curve outward. Then the curve should come down and meet the bottom of the oval. These are guides for the Grinch's cheeks.
Step 4: On top of the horizontal construction line, draw two rounded triangles for this cartoon character's eyes. The Grinch's eyes should be on either side of the vertical line, and make the left eye slightly smaller because of the perspective.
Step 5: Now sketch in the guide for the Grinch's Santa hat by sketching in a tilted triangle on top of his head.
