Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

Step 1: Start by drawing a big circle near the top of the page as a guide for Sadness' head. The circle doesn't have to be perfect. It's just a guide. Leave enough room at the bottom for the rest of her body.

Step 2: Next, draw two intersecting lines across Sadness' head, one vertical and one horizontal. Bend the lines so that they contour to the shape of the circle. These will be construction lines that will help you place the facial features later on.

Step 3: Draw two small oval-like shapes as guides for Sadness' eyes. Draw them sitting on top of the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical construction line. The oval on the left should be smaller because of perspective.

Step 4: Below the head, draw a long curved line as a guide for Sadness' body. The line should be similar in shape to an oval that's sitting behind the head.

Step 5: Inside Sadness' body, on the lower left side, draw a small circle as a guide for her two hands clasped together.

Step 6: To the left of the small circle, draw two short lines as guides for Sadness' left arm. To the right of the small circle, draw two longer lines as a guide for her right arm.

Step 7: Under the body, draw two angled lines that are similar to squares with the top part missing as guides for Sadness' legs.

Step 8: Draw a small shape under each leg as guides for Sadness' feet. The shapes should be round at the top and flat on the bottom.

Step 9: That’s it for the initial sketch! You have the basic Sadness shape. Now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

Step 10: Darken the initial oval-like shapes inside the head using thick lines to create the shape of Sadness' eyes. Add a curved line over each eye for the eyelids.

Step 11: Inside each eye, draw a circle for Sadness' irises. Inside each iris, draw a tiny circle off to the side to represent glare. In the middle of each iris, draw another circle and shade it in for the pupils.

Step 12: Draw two big ovals around Sadness' eyes for the first part of her glasses. The glasses are circular, but from this angle, they appear as ovals. Notice that the ovals tilt slightly to the left and that the oval on the left side is coming out of the head just a little bit. Use the construction lines as guides to help you place the ovals in the right spots.

Step 13: Now draw the outside part of Sadness' glasses as two more ovals. Follow the path of the first ovals as you draw the outer portion of the glasses. When you get to the middle section between the eyes, add a small arch that connects the ovals.

Step 14: Above each of Sadness' eyes, draw a long thick shape for her eyebrows. The eyebrows should tilt down toward the outside of the face to create a sad look. Be sure to not overlap the lines of the glasses. The eyebrows should be behind the glasses.

Step 15: Right below the middle section of Sadness' glasses, draw her nose using a series of short curved lines. Under the nose, draw a slightly longer line for her mouth. Make sure her mouth curves down to give her a sad expression.

Step 16: Sadness' hair is a bit tricky, so it's divided into two sections. First draw the left side using a series of long curved lines. The bottom part of the hair starts near the top of the original circle, then moves to the left and down her face. Be sure to keep all the lines behind the glasses. The top part of her hair starts above the original circle and moves to the left and down below the face in a wavy line. Add the bottom tips of the hair as short spike-like shapes.

Step 17: Now draw the right side of Sadness' hair using the initial circle as a guide. The line for the right side of the hair starts above the glasses, then curves down to the right of the glasses. Add the bottom part of the hair as short spike-like shapes, then curve the line back up to meet the top of the left side of the hair.

Step 18: Use the shapes inside the body as guides to draw Sadness' right arm. Draw the hand within the initial circle using a series of curved lines for her fingers. Then follow the path of the initial lines to create the arms and add the sweater's cuff at the wrist.

Step 19: Draw Sadness' left arm using the other two lines as a guide and don't forget to add the sweater's cuff at the wrist. Draw her other hand using a series of curved lines for the finger but make sure to not overlap the fingers of the first hand.

Step 20: Draw the turtle neck-type collar of Sadness' sweater in the section above the arms and below the head. Use a wavy line on the right side of the collar to make it more fluffy. Add a few lines inside the shape for extra detail and darken the line for her face on the left side.

Step 21: Darken the initial line to create Sadness' sweater under her hands. Draw an extra line on the lower part to create the bottom edge of the sweater.

Step 22: Draw Sadness' pants under the sweater by darkening the initial guide lines.

Step 23: Use the initial shapes as guides to draw Sadness' slippers. Follow the basic path of the guides but curve the front part of the shape down to create each slipper's opening.

Step 24: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Inside Out's Sadness. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the next step.

Step 25: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Sadness! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Sadness drawing.

Final Step: For a completely finished Sadness drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Sadness's hair and eyes are blue. You can add some light blue inside her hair to give it more shine. Her glasses are purple. Her sweater is white, but you can add some gray to the sides to give it more dimension. Her skin is light blue, and her pants and slippers are dark blue. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of Sadness from Disney•Pixar's Inside Out.
