Intro: When learning how to draw Esmeralda, start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

Draw Esmeralda 1

Step 1: First learn how to draw Esmeralda's head guides. Start by drawing a circle near the middle of the page. This will be a guide for the top part of Esmeralda's head. The circle doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s just a guide.

Step 2: Under the circle, draw an arc similar to the letter U as a guide for the lower part of Esmeralda's head or the jaw and chin. Both of the shapes combined form the guide for the head.

Step 3: Draw two long, curved lines below Esmeralda's head as guides for the neck and shoulders.

Step 4: Next, draw two intersecting lines across the entire head shape, one vertical and one horizontal. Bend the lines a bit so that they contour to the shape of Esmeralda's head. These will be construction lines that will help you when learning how to draw Esmeralda's facial features later on.

Step 5: Sitting on top of the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical construction line, draw two small ovals as guides for Esmeralda's eyes.

Step 6: Draw a semi-circle above Esmeralda's head as the first part of the guide for her hair.

Draw Esmeralda 7

Step 7: Now draw a really big arc as the second part of the guide for Esmeralda's hair. The arc should start on one side of her shoulder, move up over her head and end on the other shoulder.

Step 8: That’s it for the initial sketch! You have the basic shape of Esmeralda from Walt Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Now go in and tighten your drawing. When learning how to draw Esmeralda from this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

Step 9: Now learn how to draw Esmeralda's eyes. First tighten the outer shape of the eyes. Follow the basic path of the small ovals and make the outlines thicker to represent the eyelashes.

Draw Esmeralda 10

Step 10: Inside each eye, draw a circle for Esmeralda's irises. Inside each iris draw tiny circle to represent glare. Draw a bigger circle in the middle of the iris and shade it in for the pupils.

Step 11: On either side of the vertical construction line and above each eye, draw a long, thick, curved shape for Esmeralda's eyebrows. The eyebrows have a peak near the middle. The eyebrow on the right should be a bit smaller because of the perspective.

Draw Esmeralda 12

Step 12: Draw Esmeralda's nose to the right of the vertical construction line. The tip of her nose should not go any lower than the bottom of the main circle. The top of the line that makes up the nose should end on the right eyebrow. Draw a small line on the left side of Esmeralda's nose for the nostril.

Draw Esmeralda 13

Step 13: Now learn how to draw Esmeralda's lips in the space between the bottom of the main circle and the lower arc. First draw the upper lip as a thin curved line with pointed ends. Then draw Esmeralda's lower lip by drawing two curved arcs under the upper lip. The upper lip should be closer to the nose than to the bottom arc.

Step 14: Use the shape of the head as a guide to draw Esmeralda's face. Simply darken the lines on the right side and the bottom. Dip the line in toward Esmeralda's eye on the right side to create her cheekbone.

Step 15: Now learn how to draw Esmeralda's hair. Her hair is tricky, so it's divided into different steps. First draw the front part or the bangs using the initial semi-circle as a guide. Draw a big curved arc right on top of the semi-circle, then draw four curved spike-like shapes on the bottom. The spike-like shapes should go over the eyebrow on the left. Draw a long, wavy strand of hair on the left side of the face.

Step 16: Now draw Esmeralda's hair on the right side by drawing an arc that goes down to the right side of the face near the eye. Draw tiny curved lines on either side of the face for her ears. Draw the hoop earring on the ear on the right. Simply draw two long, curved lines on the right side of the face to create the earring.

Step 17: Draw the piece of cloth that Esmeralda's uses as a hair tie on the left side of her face using the initial semi-circle as a guide. Draw the cloth using a series of curved lines.

Draw Esmeralda 18

Step 18: Use the big arc around Esmeralda's head as a guide to draw the rest of her hair. Follow the basic path of the arc as you darken the line. Make the hair shape curvier and wavier. Draw a few curved spike-like shapes throughout the hair.

Step 19: Darken the lines that make up Esmeralda's shoulders. Draw a couple of wavy lines within the hair shape for extra detail.

Step 20: That’s it! You have learned how to sketch Esmeralda, the gypsy from Walt Disney's animated film, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the next step.

Step 21: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Esmeralda from The Hunchback of Notre Dame! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Esmeralda drawing.

Final Step: For a completely finished Esmeralda drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Color her hair and her eyebrows black. The cloth in her hair is pink. Her skin is light brown, and her eyes are green. Her earring is yellow, and her lips are red. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of Esmeralda from Walt Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
