How to Draw Mufasa

Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Start by drawing a big circle near the top of the page. This will be the basic shape for Mufasa's head. It doesn't have to be perfect. It's just a guide.
Step 2: Next, draw two intersecting lines across the entire head shape, one vertical and one horizontal. Bend the lines so they contour to the shape. Draw the horizontal line close to the top of the circle. These are construction lines that will help you place Mufasa's facial features later on.
Step 3: Draw two small shapes as guides for Mufasa's eyes. Draw them sitting on top of the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical construction line. The shapes should be similar to little footballs. The shape on the right should be a bit smaller because of the perspective.
Step 4: Draw a big circle under the horizontal construction line as a guide for Mufasa's muzzle. The top edge of this circle should graze the horizontal construction line, and the lower right edge should graze the bigger circle. Draw a small line halfway between the top and bottom of the circle, right on the vertical construction line.
Step 5: That's it for the initial sketch! You have the basic shape of Mufasa from Walt Disney's The Lion King. Now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.
Step 6: Darken the shape of Mufasa's eyes and make the edges thicker. Draw a small line on top of each eye for the eyelids.
Step 7: Inside each eye, draw a small circle for Mufasa's irises. Inside each iris, draw a dot for the pupils.
Step 8: Above each eye, draw a long, thick shape for Mufasa's eyebrows. The shape on the right should be smaller because of the perspective. The ends of the shapes should be pointy.
Step 9: Draw Mufasa's nose inside the smaller circle. Place the shape slightly above the small line inside the circle. The shape of the nose is similar to a heart with angular sides.
Step 10: Draw a line in the middle of Mufasa's nose. On either side of the line, draw a nostril that consists of a couple of curved lines. Draw a line on either side of the nose that stretches all the way to Mufasa's eyes.
Step 11: Use the line in the middle of the small circle as a guide to draw Mufasa's mouth. The mouth is made up of a thick, wavy line under the nose. Draw another line on the right side of the mouth that connects to the nose.
Step 12: Draw Mufasa's chin under the mouth by drawing a line from the right end of the mouth down toward the lower right side of the circles, then moving across the bottom and to the lower left edge of the main circle. When you draw this line, use a series of separate strokes instead of a single line for a more furry texture. Draw a couple more lines on the left side of Mufasa's mouth to complete the muzzle.
Step 13: Draw the inner left side of Mufasa's mane using the main circle as a guide. The mane is made up of a couple of wavy lines that run along the left edge of the main circle and end at the bottom under the chin.
Step 14: Draw the inner side of Mufasa's mane on the right side using the right edge of the main circle as a guide. The two lines at the top make the mane taller and puffier.
Step 15: Now draw the outer side of the mane on the left as a series of long curved lines. It extends out far from the main circle and ends far down under Mufasa's head. Draw another curved line closer to the chin for the bottom inner part of the mane. Draw a couple of curved lines on the top left side of the mane for the ear.
Step 16: Draw a series of curved lines on the right side of the head as the final outer part of the mane. The lines connect at the bottom to form the tip of Mufasa's mane. Draw an extra line under the chin and another at the top of Mufasa's head.
Step 17: Using quick strokes, draw four lines on either side of the muzzle for Mufasa's whiskers. Don't make these lines too thick; the whiskers should be thin.
Step 18: That's it! You now have a nice sketch of Mufasa from Walt Disney's The Lion King. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.
Step 19: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Mufasa! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Mufasa drawing.
Final Step: For a completely finished Mufasa drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Color his mane light brown and red. The area above his eyes are dark brown. The area under his eyes and his muzzle are light yellow. His eyes and nose are brown, and his face is yellow-orange. That's it! You now have a completed drawing of the Mufasa from Walt Disney's The Lion King movie.
