To draw Scar step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video whenever you need to. You may find it easier to follow the images and text below. The new lines are shown in red, and tips are explained. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods! Take your time and work at your own pace. You can even take breaks and come back to where you left off!

Start with Simple Lines and Shapes

Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake.

How to Draw Disney Villain Scar 1

Step 1: Start by drawing a big circle near the top of the page. This will be the basic shape for Scar's head. It doesn't have to be perfect. It's just a guide.

DRAWING TIP: To draw a circle, first draw four small marks for the height and width of the circle, and then connect the marks using curved lines. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. But the circles don't have to be perfect. They're just guides.

Next, sketch two slightly curved lines within the head circle, one vertical and one horizontal. These are construction lines that will help you place this Disney villain's facial features later on. Note the placement of these lines within the circle, and bend the lines so they contour to the shape.

Step 2Draw a big circle under the horizontal construction line as a guide for the lion muzzle. The top edge of this circle should graze the horizontal construction line, and the lower left edge extend beyond Scar's head guide.

Two long, curved lines below the head will create this Disney villain's neck. Sketch Scar's ear on the right as a curved line.

Now Add Details

Step 3: Now place this Disney villain's half-closed eyes above the horizontal guideline, paying close attention to the perspective. In a three-quarter view like this, Scar's right eye looks much smaller because of the perspective. Note the large curve of the heavy eyelids, and the points on the outer edges of the eyes. Add the irises and pupils too. At first, sketch the shapes in lightly with your pencil, and darken the lines once you get the shapes right.

Step 4: Draw the details around Scar's eyes, including his distinctive scar! Here you are drawing the dark areas around his eyes and eyebrows.

Step 5: With a few angled lines, create the shape of Scar's nose.

Step 6: Sketch the rest of the mouth. Disney villains usually have sharp or angular features, and Scar from the Lion King is no different! Draw the four tufts of fur on his chin, and the details on his mouth that indicate Scar's scowling expression.

Step 7: Add the tufts of hair on the sides of his face, as well as his ear.

Step 8: Draw the rest of Scar's lion's mane around his head using a series of smooth, curved lines. You are also indicating his shoulder here.

That's it! You now have a nice sketch of Scar, the villain from Walt Disney's The Lion King. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the next step.

Now It's Time to Ink & Color

Step 9: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked rendering of Scar! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Scar drawing.

Final Step: For a completely finished drawing of this Lion King character, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Color Scar's mane black. To delineate sections of fur on the mane, use lines of darker black with a line of gray next to it.

Put the darkest brown color on his eyelid. Use the same color around Scar's eyes and on the inner ear. Again use black on the eyebrows and nose. The whites of his eyes are yellow, and his irises are green. His scar is a pinkish color.

Use a creamy-tan color for the muzzle and tuft of hair on his chin. His face, ear, and shoulder are an orange-brown.

That's it! You now have a completed drawing of Scar, the villain from Walt Disney's The Lion King movie.
