The written step-by-step video tutorial:
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Draw a big circle for the center of the sunflower. First make four small marks to indicate the circle's height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. If you're struggling to draw the circle, just trace the outer rim of a small, circular object like a lid or a coin. Darken the edge of the circle using squiggly lines for the texture in the center of the sunflower.
Step 2: Starting at the top of the circle, draw the sunflower petals using long, curved lines. Each petal should be made up of two curved lines that come together at the top to form a point. Follow the curvature of the circle so that the petals tilt to the right the farther down they are. The sunflower's petals don't have to be the exact same size, but try to make them similar in size. Vary the spacing between the petals. Sometimes their edges will touch, and other times they won't.
Step 3: Continue to draw the flower petals along the lower, right side of the circle. Along the side of the circle, the petals should have a horizontal orientation. Along the bottom edge of the circle, the sunflower petals should be vertical and upside-down.
Step 4: Draw more flower petals along the lower, left side of the circle. Remember to keep the petals roughly the same size and space them out a bit.
Step 5: Add more petals on the top, left side to close the gap. You may find it easier to draw the flower petals if you turn your paper as you go around the circle. You can also vary the size of your petals depending on the variety of sunflower you want to draw.
