The written step-by-step video tutorial:
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Draw a long, sloping line for the bottom, left side part of the Superman symbol. With every step, sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. Draw another long, sloping line on the right side so that the end result is similar to the letter V. Make sure that the lines are similar in height and in the angle of their slope.
Step 2: On the top, left side of the Superman symbol, draw a short line that angles to the right. On the right side, draw another line of equal length that angles to the left with the same degree. Connect the lines at the top using a long, horizontal line. The end result should look like a diamond.
Step 3: Inside the shape, draw another V-shaped line to make the Superman symbol's border thicker. These lines should be parallel to the bottom edge. Don't draw them too far apart or the border will be too thick.
Step 4: At the top, draw a series of lines that are parallel to the first lines to complete the Superman symbol's border. Space out the lines evenly so that the border is the same thickness all around.
Step 5: Inside the shape, on the upper, right side, draw an angled line similar to a backward letter L. Continue to draw the line on the left side of the Superman symbol but curve it upward. At the top, draw a small V-shaped line to finish the tip of the S.
Step 6: Continue to draw the line at the bottom toward the left. Notice how close to the top border it is. Before hitting the left edge of the border (leave a big space here), curve the line back down and to the right.
Step 7: Continue to draw the line in the middle so that it slopes down and ends on the lower, right border.
Step 8: Make a small mark near the middle of the Superman symbol to determine the thickness of the S shape. Make the mark longer and curve it up on the left side so that it touches the border. On the right side, curve the line down so that it almost touches the border.
Step 9: Continue to draw the line by curving it to the left. Pay attention to the distance to the bottom tip of the Superman symbol. On the left side, curve the line to add a bump before it hits the border.
Step 10: At the bottom of the Superman symbol, draw a curved, horizontal line. On the top, left side, draw a curved, vertical line to finish the shape of the S.
Step 11: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the final lines of the Superman symbol to make your drawing permanent. When you do the inside, don't ink the part of the S that comes into contact with the border. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.
Final Step: Color your Superman symbol using color pencils, markers or crayons! Use yellow for the inside. Use red for the S and the border. Color lightly at first and darken the color gradually. Don't forget to pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace.
