How to Draw a Goomba

Use the video and step-by-step drawing instructions below to learn how to draw a Goomba from Nintendo's Super Mario video games. A new drawing tutorial is uploaded every week, so stay tooned!

Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

How to Draw Goomba Step 1

Step 1: Start by drawing a big circle on the top half of the page. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s just a guide for the Goomba’s head.

How to Draw Goomba Step 2

Step 2: Next, draw two intersecting lines across the circle, one vertical and one horizontal. The vertical line should extend outside of the circle just a bit. The lines should divide the circle into four equal parts, and the end result should be similar to crosshairs on a scope. These will be construction lines that will help you place the Goomba's facial features later on.

Step 3: Draw two arcs on the bottom of the circle as guides for the Goomba's cheeks. The arcs should start on either end of the horizontal construction line, then arc outward and end on the lower end of the vertical construction line.

How to Draw Goomba Step 4

Step 4: Below the Goomba's head, draw a shape similar to the letter U as a guide for the short body. Use the length of the vertical construction line to dictate the length of the Goomba's body.

How to Draw Goomba Step 5

Step 5: Directly underneath the Goomba's body, draw two more U-shaped arcs as guides for the feet. The arcs should angle out from the tip of the vertical construction line toward the middle section of the body.

Step 6: Draw two big ovals as guides for the eyes inside the Goomba's head. Use the construction lines to help you with the placement. The Goomba’s eyes should be on either side of the vertical construction line, and they should be cut in half by the horizontal construction line.

How to Draw Goomba Step 7

Step 7: Under the eyes, draw a long line that bends slightly near the middle as a guide for the Goomba's mouth. Notice how the ends of the mouth slightly graze the edges of the main circle.

How to Draw Goomba Step 8

Step 8: That’s it for the initial sketch! You have the basic Goomba shape. Now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

How to Draw Goomba Step 9

Step 9: Draw an arc similar to the letter U in between the Goomba's eyes to create the furrowed brow. On either side of that U, draw a long and thick wavy line that comes to a point and extends just outside of the main circle for the Goomba's eyebrows.

How to Draw Goomba Step 10

Step 10: Darken the ovals for the Goomba's eyes and draw a smaller oval inside each for his pupils. Shade the pupils except for a small circle to represent glare.

How to Draw Goomba Step 11

Step 11: On either end of the long line at the bottom, draw a triangle-like shape with a rounded tip for the Goomba's big teeth. Darken the line as you make it wrap around the teeth to finish drawing the mouth.

How to Draw Goomba Step 12

Step 12: Use the original circle and the arcs on the sides as guides to draw the Goomba's head. Give the shape smooth, rounded lines without any angles.

How to Draw Goomba Step 13

Step 13: Draw the Goomba's short body under the head by using the initial U shape as a guide. Make the top of the Gooma's body a bit thinner and have the bottom bulge out a bit.

How to Draw Goomba Step 14

Step 14: Darken the shape of the Goomba's shoes under the body and flatten the bottom part of the shape for the soles of the feet.

How to Draw Goomba Step 15

Step 15: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of a Goomba from Nintendo's Super Mario video games. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look, or continue to the next step to go for a more finished look.

How to Draw Goomba Step 16

Step 16: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then erase your pencil marks. You now have a finished inked drawing of a Goomba! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Goomba drawing in its entirety.

Final Step: For a completely finished Goomba drawing, you have to color it. You can use anything you want: markers, color pencils or even crayons! The eyebrows of a Goomba are black, and the head is light brown. The body is dark yellow, and the feet are dark brown. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of a Goomba from Nintendo's Super Mario games.
